The Jewish population in France is the largest in Europe and third largest in the world—surpassed only by Israel and the United States. The work of Chosen People Ministries (then American Board of Mission to the Jews) in France began in 1936 with providing aid to Jewish refugees from Nazi Germany and Austria. After the war, the ministry continued through publications and witnessing to the Jewish people.
Now, the Mission’s work is overseen by Guy Athia, who joined Chosen People Ministries in 2002. As the head of “Berger d’Israël” (Shepherd of Israel), he coordinates the outreach of Chosen People Ministries in France through Bible studies, events for the Jewish holidays, the Berger d’Israël magazine, videos, and internet platforms. The ministry is most active in Paris, Strasbourg, and Marseille—all cities with large Jewish communities.
