The First Fruits Of The Resurrection

The Resurrection of Jesus in the Hebrew Scriptures

Dr. Mitch Glaser

in the Hebrew Scriptures  Shalom and Happy Resurrection Day! I still remember the day when, as a young, nineteen-year-old Jewish man, I realized that Jesus was the Messiah and that He died for my sins and rose from the dead. Boy, was I surprised!  I had a somewhat secular upbringing with elements of Modern Orthodox Jewish tradition. I knew what I should believe and…

The Jewishness of the Resurrection

Believers in Jesus often have difficulty stating what they think heaven will be like. When many of us think about it, images of clouds, singing, floating, worship, and angels might come to mind. When we attempt to picture eternal life,…

Chosen Before Creation (Ephesians 1:4)

In our last study, we looked at Ephesians 1:3, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ.” Paul’s starting point in this verse…

In Memoriam: Dr. Benjamin Alpert

Dr. Benjamin Alpert’s passing on January 31, 2025, marks the loss of a remarkable man whose life was dedicated to faith, teaching, and service. Born and raised in Montgomery, Alabama, Ben’s journey took him across the country and on dozens of visits to the land he loved so dearly—Israel—before bringing him back home to Alabama for the final chapter of his life. He leaves behind a legacy that touched countless individuals, from students and congregants to fellow ministers and emergency responders.

From the early days of his walk with Jesus, Ben exuded a warm and generous spirit that attracted people to his personal warmth and relationship with his Messiah. His deep love for Israel and passion for sharing the gospel with the Jewish people shaped not only his ministry but also the lives of those he mentored. Through his teachings, he instilled a love for Scripture, guiding many to see the Bible “through Jewish eyes” and deepening their understanding of its historical and cultural roots. His famous phrase, “Your geography influences your theology,” serves as a testament to his belief in the profound connection between the land of Israel and biblical truth.

Ben’s commitment to service extended beyond the pulpit. As Chaplain for Montgomery Fire/Rescue, he provided compassion and solace during times of crisis, ministering to those in need with kindness and prayer. His dedication to his community did not go unnoticed, and his presence brought strength and comfort to many facing difficult moments.

His impact in academia was equally profound. As a former professor at the Evangelical Bible College and Seminary, he ignited a passion for biblical studies in his students, inspiring them to explore their faith in new and meaningful ways. His humor, wisdom, and vast knowledge left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of learning from him. He also opened many hearts to the significance of the civil rights movement, leading educational tours through Montgomery, sharing the lessons of history with profound insight.

Ben’s influence was felt most deeply within Chosen People Ministries, where he served for nearly thirty years. As a mentor, pastor, and Messianic rabbi, he dedicated his life to evangelism, tirelessly training and encouraging others to follow in his footsteps. His passion for helping non-Jewish believers understand their faith’s Jewish roots made him a treasured teacher. He had a unique ability to weave together Scripture, Jewish tradition, and homespun wisdom, making biblical truths accessible and impactful.

Beyond his public roles, Ben was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His love for his family was unwavering, and his faithfulness to those he cared for was evident in every aspect of his life. He played a pivotal role in bringing together a Jesus-centered community—not just in ministry but in personal relationships, even serving as a matchmaker for many dear friends. His generosity knew no bounds, and he never let go of those he mentored, supporting them through every stage of their faith journey.

Ben’s passing leaves a deep void, but his legacy remains strong. His influence lives on in the hearts and ministries of those he mentored, the students he taught, and the communities and congregations he served. Though we grieve his loss, we take comfort in knowing that he is now at peace, fully healed and rejoicing with his Messiah, Yeshua, for all eternity. We look forward to the day when we will see him again, his signature smile shining even brighter in the presence of the Lord.

We will miss you, Ben, until we see you again!

Four-Year-Old Oregon Outreach Produces Fruit

Four years ago, our staff in Oregon sent letters to hundreds of Jewish people in the greater Portland area to give them the opportunity to find out about Messiah. Recently, they received a phone call from Michael,* a Jewish man who said he had kept the letter they sent him. He wondered if our staff would accept two Hanukkah menorahs given to him by his grandmother years ago. A staff member called him, and they scheduled lunch two days later. At the end of their time together, Michael said he would call our staff member to arrange a time to meet the following week. Our staff member gave Michael some literature to read based on their conversation and his questions.

They met again a week later, and Michael spent the majority of the time talking about Isaiah 53 and the identity of the Son of Man. He was confused because of the different religious groups he had attended over the last twenty years, but he was open to learning the truth based on God’s Word. Our staff member plans to continue meeting with him. Please pray for Michael to come to faith in Messiah Jesus and for our staff as they minister to him.

Passover: Holding On to Hope
Mitch Glaser
Dr. Mitch Glaser

Dear friend in the Messiah, There is just something about Passover that brings hope to the Jewish soul. Maybe it is because the entire Passover service looks forward to a greater day of redemption. Throughout the Passover Seder (ritual meal), we are reminded of that dramatic moment when God, through Moses, commanded each Israelite family in Egypt to take an unblemished lamb, slaughter the…
